Project 9 – To provide a children’s home

One of the dreams of the Pastor’s husband, Moses, has been to provide a Children’s home for the poor children who otherwise might have to work in the local fields rather than attend school.  The home is providing facilities and encouragement to complete their homework and opportunities for further education.

A plot of land adjacent to the Church became available which Julie purchased.

Most of the work was done by the villagers under Vinay’s direction. He purchased an electric breeze block making machine to reduce costs and to ensure good quality blocks – this machine will be used for toilet construction as well.

The building is complete and was opened on 30th March 2008. 6 boys and 6 girls aged 8-12 have beeen selected based on their potential for a college education and on their parent’s means.

The home is called “The Elizabeth-Ann Home”

The children attend the village primary school or secondary school in Chirala.

It has been estimated that it will cost £166 / month to provide food, accommodation and a cook and warden.  Many UK sponsors are contributing a regular £1 per month (or more) to support these children.

An English teacher has been provided for two hours per day to supplement their education – later it may be possible to make an English class available to all village children.  They are also learning a little Hindi – their national language.

One room will be used by the doctor as his surgery. The building has been constructed to permit the addition of a second floor to allow further children to live there.
