Radio Interview
Listen to Graham Rogers of BBC Wiltshire discuss the Elizabeth Ann Charity with Michael and Julie Davies.
Project 1 - To provide a drinking water well
This was the first input into the Village. At that time there was no other source of drinking water easily available to the villagers. The water level is only about 25 feet below the ground. A simple bucket and rope enables all to help themselves to water. It is situated near the Church.
In May 2005, during a particularly dry period, other local wells became dry and their villagers had to travel 2 – 3 km to fetch water from Elizabeth-Ann’s well in Burlavaripalem.
Now there are 4 other drinking water wells in the village that have been built with government money. The government provide potassium permanganate to keep the water ‘sweet’. There are other wells around the village that provide washing water - the water table being high there is no shortage of water.
In recent years local government has installed a water purifying plant on the edge of the village where large bottles can be filled for a rupee or two.
